'Give Mkhalele Bafana Job! Broos Picks Usual Suspects!'

'Give Mkhalele Bafana Job! Broos Picks Usual Suspects!'

Former Mamelodi Sundowns hardman Bennett Mnguni has launched a fiery salvo at SAFA, questioning their decision to stick with Hugo Broos while ignoring the potential of Bafana Bafana legend Helman "Midnight Express" Mkhalele.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Mnguni pulls no punches, his words echoing through the corridors of South African football.

"I have to be honest with you. I don't think Broos is the best coach for our national team at this point. Tell me what has he done different from the coaches before him. Which player can you say was not known and has been introduced to us by him?"

Mnguni's voice rises in this one-on-one interview with Soccer Laduma, as he champions Mkhalele, the current Bafana assistant to be promoted for South Africa.

"You mean there are no players from the Motsepe Foundation Championship league who he could have looked at and surprise us all with their selection? The players he selects are the usual ones that any other coach can select. Seriously why can't SAFA just give the Bafana Bafana job to Helman (Mkhalele)? For me I think he is the one who can do the job," Mnguni said.

Though, it is not clear why Mnguni feels different types of selections make a coach better, while Broos has actually always been criticised for his 'different' selections. For example, Khanyisa Mayo would normally be in the squad as the joint-top scorer in the PSL at the moment, but Broos is being different by not choosing him. By not selecting some players who have starred in the PSL, it then makes it unlikely he would choose players who star in the lower divisions.

Nevertheless, Mnguni's gaze now turns to the absent prodigy, the young SuperSport United magician Shandre Campbell.

"Again tell me why as a national team coach you leave that SuperSport United left footed young boy Shandre Campbell out? That just shows you don't know what you are doing. With right instructions that boy can make the team play. He has Messi's touches. Fine touches and very good in one on one situations. You need such young players in the national team so that they grow with the system," Mnguni believes.

Mnguni's frustration continues. "And I think Mkhalele as a local coach understands that but he is not in charge to select the team. But if you make him the head coach then he can be in control. So, why don't you make him the head coach?" Mnguni wondered.
