Former Orlando Pirates, Platinum Stars, and Mamelodi Sundowns utility player, Benson Mhlongo has publicly called for the appointment of Lucas Radebe as the next president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), urging a change in leadership in the wake of current president Dr. Danny Jordaan's ongoing legal troubles.
Radebe, a Leeds United legend and one of South Africa's most revered footballing icons, has long expressed his ambition to lead football in the country. However, his bid for the SAFA presidency has been blocked by bureaucratic hurdles, preventing him from taking on the role despite his passion for the game and desire to make a difference.
Mhlongo, who had a successful career with top South African clubs, believes it is time for a shift in leadership at the helm of SAFA.

Taking to social media, Mhlongo highlighted his support for Radebe to replace Dr. Jordaan, who has been president of the association since 2013. Dr. Jordaan's tenure has recently been marred by controversy, as he faces charges of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million alongside SAFA Chief Financial Officer Gronnie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling.
This legal battle has cast a shadow over Jordaan's leadership, and many, including Mhlongo, feel that South African football is in need of a fresh start.
"South African football family can we please stand up for a change? I think it's time for Mr Lucas Radebe to be SAFA President," he wrote on his official Instagram account.
Radebe, whose legacy as a player speaks volumes, is seen as a figure who can unite the football community in South Africa and restore faith in the leadership of the country's football governing body. Mhlongo's call is a clear indication of the growing desire among South African football fans and former players for change and accountability within SAFA.
As Radebe continues to express his interest in taking the reins, the debate over the future of South African football leadership is set to intensify, with many now hoping that a new era will be led by a football icon in South Africa.
