According to the Daily Mail, Mikhail Prokhorov has denied that he will attempt to buy the Red Devils, who were bought by the Glazer family in a gradual takeover between 2003 and 2005.

Prokhorov, who reportedly as a net worth of £8.7 billion (R182 billion), has been linked with a move back into sports ownership, having previously owned NBA team Brooklyn Nets.

It is claimed the Russian, who ran for his country's presidency against Vladimir Putin in 2012, has no plans to return to sport any time soon.

United supporters have voiced their frustrations over their current owners for a number of years now, but potential suitors have found it difficult to finance a takeover due to the club's reported value of £3 billion (R63 billion).
