Premier League Confirms Six New COVID-19 Cases

Premier League Confirms Six New COVID-19 Cases

Ahead of English football's proposed return to the pitch, the Premier League has confirmed there are six new coronavirus cases across three clubs after recent tests.

On Tuesday, the EPL announced that six people have tested positive for COVID-19 after a total of 748 tests were administered to players and members of staff.

The positive cases come from just three teams, although the individuals who have contracted the virus were not named. It has, however, since been confirmed that three of the cases come from Watford.

"The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday, 17 May and Monday, 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for Covid-19," a statement on the Premier League's official website read.

"Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs. Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.

"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and oversight. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the Premier League due to legal and operational requirements."

Since the announcement, Burnley have revealed that their assistant manager Ian Woan has also tested positive for COVID-19.

The English top flight is expected to resume next month, after being suspended since March due to the rapid spreading of the virus in the country.
