While I'm watching TV during this lockdown period, my thoughts dwell towards our PSL stars and their futures. The makeup of our footballing history is most definitely in jeopardy. The dismantling of livelihoods and glory is pending.
What if this season is declared null and void. What if this lockdown is extended and teams without sponsors go into liquidation? The problems and constraints that arrives could be detrimental to the survival of our local clubs. Local clubs that are maintained by the owners businesses, is not in operation and that directly impacts everyone at the club.
Soon the board will be calling for pay cuts of players. European clubs are already doing it. Some are moving towards furlough which is government schemes that cover the non-playing staff. The 2.5 million together with their private businesses will not be enough for sure.
What will we do? Our governments don't really have this in place. The removal of valuable history from the game is one thing that I'm totally against. Phunya Sele Sele is one of those clubs who have previously struggled under normal circumstances. I'd hate to see them go because they have added so much value and history to the PSL.
