Superstar Lionel Messi has often been criticised for his performances with Argentina, despite being their record goalscorer. The FC Barcelona player's mom has now spoken about her son's passion for his country, and recalled the tears he has shed for his nation.
Although he is considered among the best players in history, the 30-year-old has long lived in the shadow of Diego Maradona when it comes to the international stage.
The Albiceleste legend helped his country win the 1986 FIFA World Cup, while Messi has lost three major finals with Argentina.
There has also been a belief in the South American nation that the forward does not really care for the national team as much as he does for the Blaugrana, but his mom, Celia Cuccittini, has insisted there is nothing her son wants more than success with his country.
"For those who criticise him, they should have seen him suffer and cry (for Argentina), as we have," she told Channel 13.
"The criticism hurts you. He is the first one who wants to win.
"His dream is to win the World Cup, it's one of his most desired goals.
"I see him very relaxed and he has a lot of confidence."
