FIFA Announce Dream Team Of 2014 World Cup

FIFA have announced the Dream Team of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and it is picked with some surprising faces.

Who would have thought that three Brazilian defenders would make the squad despite the Selecao conceding more goals than any other Brazil side did in World Cup history?

It is no surprise, though, that the German World Cup champions have four players in the World Cup best XI, but then again no Dutch player made the team despite the Netherlands finishing third.

If you may ask where all this controversy comes from, the answer is simple. It was not one of FIFA's committees nor the choice of well-known journalists who picked the best players in Brazil.

No. Over 4 million registered members on FIFA.com voted for their star players between the 27 June and 13 July, which means fans from all over the world could start voting before the quarter-finals already.

By this time, Brazil had not received their historic 7-1 defeat to Germany as well as the final nail in their coffin through a 3-0 to the Dutch in the third-place playoff.

In fact, when David Luiz scored his thunderous free-kick against Colombia a couple of fans probably put him into their Dream Team - a decision which they would regret a few days later.

Whether this procedure and the modus allow a true reflection of the best performers in Brazil, you may answer for yourself.

Here is FIFA's Dream Team (as voted by members of FIFA.com):

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer (Germany)

Defence: Marcelo (Brazil), David Luiz (Brazil), Thiago Silva (Brazil), Mats Hummels (Germany)

Midfield: Angel Di Maria (Argentina), Toni Kroos (Germany), James Rodriguez (Colombia)

Attack: Neymar (Brazil) Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Muller (Germany)

Coach of the tournament: Joachim Low
