With the legendary Ephraim 'Jomo' Sono facing a difficult task of moving away from relegation zone with his beloved Jomo Cosmos, words of support and encouragement have come through from a colleague in the coaching industry.
The PSL went into the Coronavirus pandemic break with Cosmos in 15th place on the GladAfrica Championship log and in danger of being relegated to the ABC Motsepe League, with six matches remaining for the season.
"He (Jomo) needs a lot of focus and he will make it. If there was ever a time for him to focus more it is now and he needs to encourage the younger ones (players) and they can make it. He is a man of so much experience and all that he needs is to work on the minds of the younger ones. He has done it before," former Mpumalanga Black Aces coach Jacob Sakala said in advising Sono.
"Jomo has got so much knowledge about football. He loves football and he is married to football. And, yes, he's committed to a lot of things. He's committed to his businesses, and he's also committed to his family, and also to football. Maybe he does need somebody (a coach) who's going to do it for him and he can contribute in helping that person with his knowledge. He can put his experience into good use when it is needed," Sakala added.
"Look at Mr Kaizer Motaung and what he is doing, look at the chairman – Irvin Khoza and what he is doing, they have a lot of commitments and meetings. What if Irvin was a coach? Do you thing he would do well? Look at (Patrice) Motsepe and he's got a lot of things he is busy with. That's why he's got people he's employed – the likes of Trott Moloto and others. It's a chain. I will feel bad to hear that Jomo is relegated. Jomo is a big brand. He is a titanic, but even the titanic sinks. Imagine what people would say about the captain of the titanic if it was to sink," the coach concluded.
