Bernard Gonzales, who worked for Ligue 1 side Reims for more than 20 years, took his own life over the weekend, Le Parisien claim.
Gonzales' passing was confirmed by the club, with president Jean-Pierre Caillot saying the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the French team hard.
"Words fail me," he said in a statement on the club's official website.
"This pandemic has hit Reims in the heart and we've lost a great person and a great professional.
"This has shocked us."

Having tested positive for the virus, Gonzales was in quarantine with his wife, who has also contracted the illness, at the time of his death.
"I'm thinking of his family," Arnaud Robinet, the mayor of Reims, told Le Parisien.
"He is collateral damage of COVID-19 because he had tested positive and was in quarantine.
