'Christian Eriksen Was Gone'

'Christian Eriksen Was Gone'

Denmark's team doctor has revealed that Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen was "gone" after he collapsed during his country's 2020 UEFA European Championship opener on the weekend.

The footballing world came to a complete standstill on Saturday evening when, in the 42nd minute of Denmark's Euro 2020 opener against Finland, Eriksen collapsed and lost consciousness on the field.

After referee Anthony Taylor signalled for the medical team to see to the 29-year-old, the game was put on hold as the Inter midfielder's countrymen formed a human shield around his body as doctors attended to him.

Speaking about the harrowing incident, Denmark's team doctor Morten Boesen seemed to suggest that the ex-Tottenham Hotspur man was momentarily dead before being resuscitated.

"We started the resuscitation and we managed to do it.

"How close were we to losing him? I don't know, but we got him back after one defib (defibrillation), so that's quite fast."

Further tests and medical examinations will be done to identify exactly what caused Eriksen's cardiac arrest, with the player said to be in a stable condition in which he is able to talk.

Denmark continued the game against Finland one and a half hours after the traumatic event, losing 1-0.
