Tau played a major role in helping South Africa qualify for the tournament in Egypt that begins next month, and many were holding their breath after he limped off during the 3-3 draw with Royale Excel Mouscron – after scoring a brace. Baxter, however, says that there is good news coming out of Belgium at this point in time, and he may well be reaping the rewards of visiting Tau's club during one of his recent trips to Europe to check on Mzansi's overseas-based talent. The Siya crew got in touch with the Bafana coach to see if he had an update on Tau's situation, and he revealed that he had been in contact with RUSG who gave a positive update on the forward's progress. Baxter said, "The club got in touch with me as soon as they got the results of his tests, and said that it was just a bit of bone bruising so wasn't as bad an injury as they originally thought it might be. I'm grateful that, after I'd gone over to see them previously, they kept me in the loop, and it's looking hopeful that he'll be fine for the AFCON." With that in mind, the fact that Tau missed Union Saint-Gilloise's final two games of the season may suggest that they were more of a precautionary matter, and the decision may well have been made with one eye on making sure his participation in this year's AFCON was not put at risk.
