In a show of solidarity with South African journalists at the African Cup of Nations, Mashaba chose to answer in his mother tongue, after the Algerian captain had earlier chose to answer in Arabic at their press conference. There were no translators at hand.
While Mashaba was joined by Dean Furman at the 'coach and captain' press conference, Mashaba said he had not yet decided who would lead the side, and would only reveal the captain after naming the team.
Mashaba is one of only three 'homegrown' coaches at the finals.
