Orlando Pirates assistant coach, Benson Mhlongo, wants the future Orlando Pirates stars in his MDC team to feel the magnitude of the Mini Soweto Derby and get a taste of the kind of pressure that comes with playing against Soweto rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.
Stage Set For Mini Soweto Derby
Pirates' and Chiefs' respective MultiChoice Diski Challenge teams will meet in what has been deemed the "Mini Soweto Derby" today and Mhlongo has said that, even though it's not the senior teams meeting, the derby will have the same atmosphere.
First of all, when you say "Pirates vs Chiefs", it doesn't matter what division it is," the 36-year-old remarked. "You can feel it, and the players here (in the MDC) are the future players for the first team."
Mhlongo went on to say that he wants his players to get a taste of that atmosphere, so that they're prepared for it by the time they break into the first team.
"The guys must understand and feel what it's like to be in a derby," he continued. "They must understand the pressure that comes with the club and how different it is in this game."
