According to the Ghanaian Football Association, Gyan is responding well to the treatment and suffered only a mild case of the illness.

"The illness was detected at an early stage and Gyan is responding well to treatment," A statement from the Ghanaian FA read.

"Doctors will continue to monitor his progress ahead of the Black Stars' opening Group C match against Senegal in Mongomo."

Marseille winger, Andre Ayew, is likely to captain the side tonight and David Accam could take Gyan's place in the starting line-up.

Gyan has played 86 matches for his national side since 2003 and has scored 45 goals in the process.
