The Black Stars had a couple of good chances to take the lead from corner kicks around the 19-minute mark. The first saw the goalkeeper punch the ball to Ebenezer Assifuah whose strike was blocked before the rebound was directed wide. Moments later the second corner produced a chance for Jonathan Mensah who won a header from eight yards out, but he directed it over despite being unmarked. Mozambique had a chance of their own in the 25th minute. Gildo delivered the corner kick for Domingues, but he steered his headed attempt against the bar and behind. Helder Pelembe tried his luck from 20 yards out as the hosts went looking for the winning goal, but he sent his strike wide of the far post after finding space to shoot. Pelembe had another decent opening to find the winner when a bouncing ball fell for him but his headed shot went well wide of the target.
