AFCON 2017 Qualifier
Result: Sierra Leone 0-0 Cote d'Ivoire
Date: 06 September 2015
Venue: Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium
Cote d'Ivoire were held to a goalless draw by a determined Sierra Leone side at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday evening.
The hosts, being Sierra Leone, had to move the fixture to Port Harcourt, Nigeria due to the ongoing CAF moratorium on football in Ebola-hit countries.
Both sides had a rather slow start to the encounter as the pitch did not allow for flowing football.
Cote d'Ivoire tried to put together some nice passing moves in search of the opener but the Sierra Leone defense was looking solid at the back.
Sierra Leone began to grow in confidence with the half coming to a close but 0-0 is how the teams headed into the break.
The second stanza started in similar fashion to the first, but Sierra Leone were looking a bit more threatening this time.
Both sides were seemingly taking the conservative approach as the pitch was not allowing them to play.
The visitors upped the tempo with the game drawing to a close but nothing could come out of it as the Sierra Leone defense continued to frustrate them and the match ended goalless.
The draw means that Sierra Leone remain at the foot of the table with a single point and Ivory Coast are in third place with two points after two successive draws, and Cote d'Ivoire will have some work to do if they are to qualify for the 2017 showpiece.
