AFCON 2017 Qualifier
Result: Gambia 0-1 Cameroon
Date: 06 September 2015
Venue: Independence Stadium
A second half goal was enough to earn Cameroon a narrow 1-0 victory over Gambia at the Independence Stadium on Sunday.
Both sides were rather slow out the starting blocks as they got the feel of the ball and took their time in getting into a rhythm. Cameroon had a couple of half-chances thanks to the freedom of space given by the Gambians but nothing could come out of those chances.
Gambia should have went ahead in the 29th minute when Dibba missed a chance where missing seemed like the tougher option. The hosts began to gain some momentum but the Cameroonian defense was looking very solid at the back as they put numbers behind the ball successfully.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, but Cameroon looked morte and more alive as the half progressed. A defensive blunder in the 65th minute led to the game's opener as Cameroon made sure to capitalize on the opportunity, 1-0.
Cameroon were looking good, and five minutes later Choupo Moting should have extended their lead, but the Cameroonian's shot was deflected.
It was all Cameroon in the dying moments of the game, although Gambia almost grabbed an equalizer on the stroke of full-time, but Cameroon was not willing to let go of their lead as they held on for the slender 1-0 victory.
