The Paris Saint-Germain forward produced a special moment as the 2021 Copa American champions kept their 2022 FIFA World Cup hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Mexico in Group C on Saturday.
Messi, 35, struck from range in the second half to inspire the Albiceleste to three points, picking up the assist for substitute Enzo Fernandez's goal three minutes from time.
Their win over Mexico has boosted their chances of qualifying for the first knockout round of the tournament, after losing 2-1 to Saudi Arabia in their opening game of the competition in Qatar.

Heading into the World Cup, Argentina were considered among the favourites for the trophy but made life difficult for themselves with their shock defeat to Herve Renard's team, a performance that would have concerned head coach Lionel Scaloni.
As Messi and his compatriots celebrated in the changing room on Saturday night, a video emerged of a Mexico shirt appearing to be caught by the former Barcelona's captain foot, a visual that sent professional Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez into an online frenzy.

According to Marca, the 32-year-old asked his Twitter followers if they had seen the clip of Messi "cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag", before seemingly threatening the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner with violence, saying "he better pray to God that I don't find him".
Alvarez continued his tirade, writing: "Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico! I'm not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi did."
Marca's report added that it is likely that the contact Messi made with the Mexican jersey on the floor was unintentional, and was made while he was trying to take his boots off.
