Ronaldo and Messi started against each other for the first time since the Portuguese left Real Madrid for Juventus two years ago.

First blood went to Ronaldo who won his side a penalty on 12 minutes after being brought down by Ronald Araujo, with the former Los Blancos star calmly slotting home the opening goal.

The lead was doubled eight minutes later as Juan Cuadrado's cross found Weston McKennie, who sent a fine acrobatic volley past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen from the penalty spot.

Messi looked to get Barcelona back in the game after a slow start but his drilled effort from 20 yards out was impressively tipped away by Gianluigi Buffon.

Buffon was on hand to frustrate Messi once again before the break with a fine save after the Argentine was played in by Jordi Alba down the left flank.

However, the hosts got off to a poor start in the second half after Juventus were awarded a second penalty for a handball on Clement Lenglet, which allowed Ronaldo to slot home his second and Juventus' third goal of the day.

Ronald Koeman opted to reshuffle his stall soon after as Samuel Umtiti replaced Lenglet while Pedri made way for Riqui Puig while Juventus threw on Rodrigo Bentancur and Adrien Rabiot for the final 20 minutes.

Juventus had the ball in the back of the net on 76 minutes when Leonardo Bonucci bundled the ball home, but the Video Assistant Referee ruled the goal out for an own goal. Nevertheless, the disallowed goal didn't affect the end result as Juventus held on for the 3-0 to finish as Group G winners while Barcelona settle for second spot.
