Atletico Madrid were close to securing three points away at Lazio in Group E until the Italian side's shot-stopper pulled off the unthinkable at the opposite end of the field in the 95th minute of the match.
Ivan Provedel, 29, abandoned his goal for Atletico's penalty area as his side pushed to get something from the game and found himself presented with a golden chance following an in-swinging cross from Luis Alberto.
The Italian shot-stopper rose highest after showing impressive movement in the box before accurately heading the ball into the back of the net in a moment few would have predicted.
Speaking after the encounter, stunned by what just occurred, Provedel admitted he had still not "come to terms" with his added-time equaliser.
"It's a great feeling and I've still not come to terms with it," he told Mediaset.
"The most difficult thing it was dodging the slaps at the end, luckily Luis Alberto kicked it there. How does it feel to score?
"A mess! I feel more when I make a save, I'm not used to it. But I'll realise it, I'm happy for the point and I'm sorry that the goal came in the last minute, we deserved it sooner.
