Saudi Captain 'Furious' After Neymar's Arrival

One of Al Hilal's star Saudi Arabian players is reportedly furious amid rumours Neymar could be named the club's new captain following his record arrival.

The 31-year-old Brazil international made his Al Hilal debut from the bench in their emphatic 6-1 victory over Al Riyadh last Friday, assisting a goal in his 26-minute cameo.

He could have added to the score with an effort of his own late on in the game, though, when his side was awarded a penalty. The crowd was said to have booed Salem Al Dawsari as he stepped up to convert the strike from 12 yards instead of Neymar.

Al Dawsari, according to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al Awsat, has taken issue with the former Barcelona winger's arrival at the club amid claims head coach Jorge Jesus could appoint Neymar as his new captain.

The winger is thought to usually be Al Hilal's skipper and is said to be "outraged" at his situation, with the 32-year-old considered a national hero in Saudi Arabia given his years of service to his club and the men's national team.

Al Dawsari has contributed to an impressive 165 goals in 362 matches either side of a sixth-month loan spell at Villarreal in 2018, while he has appeared on 62 occasions for his country to date.

It was also the Al Hilal attacker who scored the winning goal against Argentina during the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

While rumours suggest that Neymar could soon take over captaincy duties at Al Hilal, something Karim Benzema has done at Al Ittihad and Cristiano Ronaldo has at Al Nassr, the Selecao star was not handed the armband on Monday night when the team took on Navbahor Namangan in the AFC Champions League.
