Mohamed Salah's unfortunate injury and his subsequent tearful departure wrote the early headlines of the final between Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Both teams went into the half-time break tied at 0-0, but it was Karim Benzema, who opened the scoring following a blunder by Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.
Sadio Mane's equaliser for Liverpool was outshadowed by Bale's stunning bicycle kick off the bench. The Welshman added his second after another costly mistake by Karius to hand Real a 3-1 victory in Kyiv.
