Man Utd One Step Closer To Signing Osimhen?

Man Utd One Step Closer To Signing Osimhen?

Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen.

The Red Devils are reportedly in the market for a new striker, with Rasmus Højlund failing to progress in his second season, while new acquisition Joshua Zirkzee looks more suited to playing in one of the two positions behind the striker.

There are many other areas of concern in the team, but the striking department is one the club seemingly feels the need to address, and it is alleged that one of the forwards they have in their cross hairs is Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles hitman was in sublime form last season for Napoli, scoring 28 goals in 32 matches in all competitions. With his mooted release clause set to drop from €120 million (R2.4 billion) to €75 million (R1.5 billion) at the end of the campaign, many clubs are believed to be keen on acquiring his signature.

Before signing for the Italian giants, Osimhen was rumoured to be on the verge of completing a transfer to Saudi Arabia, and it is understood that clubs in the Saudi Pro League still retain an interest.

Juventus is another side believed to be keen on keeping the forward in Serie A, but according to TBR Football, the Lagos native wants to move to the Premier League only.

Earlier this year, news emerged that a club not playing in the UEFA Champions League would not be a dealbreaker for the 26-year-old, suggesting that the Mancunians stand a major chance of landing him.

No European football for United could mean that the club's transfer budget may be tight, and should they seriously pursue the 2023 CAF Men's Player of the Year, the Daily Mail stated earlier this week that they would even go as far as letting Alejandro Garnacho go to Osimhen's parent club, Napoli, in an attempt to drop the price even lower.

Garnacho is a target for the Serie A side and was subject to multiple bids in January from Antonio Conte's side.
