The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner returned to Inter Miami's starting XI in the league on Sunday following an injury absence.
Messi put in an influential performance to inspire the Herons to a 3-2 away win over Sporting Kansas City in front of a record-breaking 72 610 fans.

However, his strike from range was not the only clip to go viral from Inter Miami's victory in the early hours of Sunday morning, after his personal bodyguard was required to act quickly near the end of the encounter.
As the game was approaching its end, a fan in the Florida-based outfit's colours rushed the field to take a picture with Messi before he was grabbed and put on the floor by Yassine Chueko.
The video below shows Chueko sprinting from distance to intervene.
