The Daily Mail recently published the salary figures of La Liga's 10 highest-paid players, and also claimed that more than half of the league's footballers earn less than €500 000 a year.
According to the report, "Official figures issued every October showed that, in the season before last, some top-flight players were earning 130 times less than Messi and Ronaldo.
"More than half the players in the top division are earning less than €500 000 (R7.8 million) a season and beyond that, the picture is even more bleak.
"There is a minimum salary for players agreed between their union and the league.
"As of last October's figures, it is set at €129 000 (R2.1 million) a season. In the second division the figure is half that, at €65 000 (R1 million) a year."
If you do the maths, the reported minimum salary is about 150 times less than Messi's and Ronaldo's salary.
