Reports suggest that Lionel Messi has already decided the club he wants to play for once he leaves Paris Saint-Germain.
At the beginning of the season, Messi left the club he had spent 21 years of his life with when he left Barcelona. After 777 games and 672 goals, the diminutive Argentine switched Catalonia for the French capital in August 2021, but it has not been plain sailing for the four-time UEFA Champions League winner since his arrival at the Parc des Princes.
Despite helping PSG capture a record-equalling 10th top-flight title, Messi is yet to showcase the form that earned him so many plaudits throughout his illustrious career, having scored only 11 goals and provided 13 assists in his debut season in France.
PSG's inability to secure the much-coveted Champions League trophy has been highly publicised and should the club fail to make a splash in next season's edition of Europe's premier club competition, it is reported that Messi will not extend his stay in Paris.
According to Alex Candal, reporter for DIRECTV Sports, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will join Major League Soccer side Inter Miami once his contract with Les Parisiens expires in 2023.
It is claimed the move to Major League Soccer will be pre-empted by the 2014 FIFA World Cup runner-up buying a 35% stake in the MLS franchise partly owned by David Beckham.
Despite his relatively poor form in Ligue 1 this season, however, Messi is still regarded as one of the best footballers on the planet and could yet be tempted by the prospect of challenging himself at another elite European side should things not work out in Paris.
Manchester City have been long-time admirers of Barcelona's former captain and a reunion with his former coach Pep Guardiola remains a possibility.
