FC Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, achieved what Cristiano Ronaldo could not do – he equaled Raul's Champions League record of 71 goals.
The Argentine is now the joint-highest goal-scorer in the history of the competition.
His two strikes in the 2-0 win against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena last night drew him level with the Real Madrid legend and moved him one atop of Ronaldo.
Messi needed only 90 games to reach that tally, with an average of 0.78 goals per games. Raul, meanwhile, struck his 71 goals in 142 outings and Ronaldo needed 107 games to reach his 70.
Raul was 33-years-old when he struck his last Champions League goal, but Messi is only 27 and will surely add a couple more goals.
Messi has now also scored in 23 different stadiums, which is also a record and one better than Ronaldo.

Ajax's defense is among Messi's favorite hunting grounds and his two goals last night took his tally to six against the Dutch side - his favorite opponent is AC Milan against which he scored eight goals.
Messi also has the advantage to become the lonely record-scorer when his side travel to APOEL in three weeks on Tuesday, while Ronaldo has to wait for his side's trip to Basel one day later.
