Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has stated that he wants to emulate former rivals Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
Rooney enjoyed immense success during his time at Old Trafford, racking up five Premier League medals as well as winning both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
Although he may have trumped his rivals in England's top flight during his playing days, he is now looking to catch up with regards to management.
Gerrard is currently in charge of Scottish giants Rangers, while Lampard is managing his former Premier League side Chelsea.
Rooney has just taken temporary charge at Derby following the sacking of Phillip Cocu, and will enjoy his first game in the hot seat against Bristol City on Saturday.
"I've made it quite clear in the last few years, my ambition is to go into management," the 35-year-old said, according to USA Today.
"Especially with guys like Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker (Fulham manager) all getting good jobs and doing really well.
"I wouldn't be an ambitious person if I said I didn't want the job."
Rooney is still regarded as a player-coach at Derby, and is yet to give a clear indication as to when he will hang up his boots.
"While I'm in this position, I'll give myself a new three-year deal (laughs)," he added.
"I know I'm in the twilight of my career. We'll have to wait and see what happens moving forward. For now, I've got my toes in both dressing rooms, as a player and trying to help lead the team, and we'll see where this takes us."
