Manchester United & Liverpool Dealt New Hurdle In Erling Haaland Race

Manchester United & Liverpool Dealt New Hurdle In Erling Haaland Race

There could be a new twist in the race for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland's signature.

The striker has been heavily linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United, with reports suggesting that the Premier League giants were eyeing a release clause that would allow the player to leave BVB in 2021 for just £68 million (R1.4 billion).

However, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has reportedly muddied the waters, with TeamTalk reporting that he told Bild: "There is no such agreement."

United and Liverpool are not the only clubs linked with the player, with it being said that Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

Watzke also revealed that they are hopeful of extending the player's stay at the Bundesliga club, adding: "It is about convincing the player of your club and your plans. We really want Erling to stay with us longer and we want to convince him and his agent of this.

"I am quite optimistic. I think Erling is comfortable at BVB. We can definitively say that he took the right step last winter by signing for our club.

"I would consider it a mistake if he moved on after such a short amount of time."
