Ten Hag: Why Casemiro Hasn't Been Starting

Ten Hag: Why Casemiro Hasn't Been Starting

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has explained what has been stopping Casemiro from getting more game time at the club since his arrival from Real Madrid.

Ten Hag Reveals Why He Didn't Bring Ronaldo On Vs Man City

Many of the Red Devils' issues last season were attributed to the team's lack of quality in midfield, problems that continued into the current campaign as United lost their two opening Premier League matches.

In a bid to remedy this, the Manchester-based club secured the services of Brazil international Casemiro from Los Blancos in a transfer that cost a reported £70 million (R1.4 billion), but are yet to start the 30-year-old in a league game.

The ex-LaLiga star was unveiled at Old Trafford on the same day United beat Liverpool 2-1 at home, a match in which Scott McTominay impressed.

Ten Hag believes Casemiro's moment for more regular game time will come, but has suggested he will continue picking his side on merit.

With Barcelona reportedly eager to re-sign Lionel Messi at the end of the season, there has been a new development in the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain.

"On the day we signed him, we started to win and it's about the team," he said, according to Manchester Evening News.

"The team is doing really well, it's not against Casemiro, it's for, in this case, Scott McTominay, he performed great in the team and then we get into a run.

"But I'm sure it will be important for us in the long and short term, he will find himself in the team, but it has to come in a natural way."

Casemiro has made six appearances in all competitions for United since he arrived, starting just once, a 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League.

The midfielder played just 31 minutes on Sunday as the Red Devils suffered a heavy 6-3 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the Premier League.
