With Manchester United legend David Beckham having had many different hairstyles during his playing career, he recently revealed what Sir Alex Ferguson said to him after one particular haircut.
The retired England international was popular for his ability from set-pieces, his crossing and direct free-kicks in particular, but was equally well-known for his many different hairstyles.
In a recent interview, Beckham recalled how, upon arriving at Wembley Stadium to take on Chelsea in the Charity Shield in 2000, Ferguson had instructed him to shave his hair off before kick-off.
"I'd gone into training the day before with a beanie on, trained in a beanie, gone back, walked in the hotel, had a beanie on, had dinner, beanie on, breakfast beanie on, bus on way to stadium – beanie.
"Then, as I got ready for the game, I took it off. He said, 'go and shave it off'.
"I giggled, and he was like 'no, I'm serious, go and shave it off'. So I had to find a pair of clippers and I shaved it off in Wembley Stadium. Manager always rules."
Beckham's time at United ended in 2003 after a famous fallout with Ferguson, but both the former player and ex-boss have since moved on from the incident.
The Englishman represented the Manchester club on 387 occasions, winning 13 trophies along the way.
