According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain are preparing to sign an Inter Milan star in January after failing to secure his services during the off-season.
Transfer Update: Romelu Lukaku
In the latest transfer window, Les Parisiens pushed to secure Inter centre-back Milan Skriniar's signature as they looked to overhaul their squad and create a new culture at the club post-Mauricio Pochettino and previous sporting director Leonardo.
Leonardo's successor Luis Campos persisted throughout the window in his attempt to sign the Slovakia captain but to no avail as the Nerazzurri insisted on keeping their star defender.
Having just lost the Serie A title to city rivals AC Milan, Inter were keen to maximise their chances of reclaiming their crown, and keeping Skriniar could help them achieve this, but this move came at a risk because the 27-year-old's contract runs out at the end of the season.
The 19-time Scudetto winners were planning on extending Skriniar's contract but, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport, it seems that may not be possible because the former Sampdoria man's wage demands are too high for the club to fulfil.
The same report suggests that the defender does not plan on renewing his contract as a result, and could leave on a free transfer next year.
PSG are, however, reportedly willing to sign Skriniar for €30 million (R518 million) in the January window, roughly half the amount they had offered Inter for his services prior to commencement of this campaign.
Man Utd's First Signing For Next Season Already Lined Up?
While Les Parisiens are not the only club interested in Skriniar, it seems they are keen to conclude a deal as soon as possible before the likes of Manchester City enter the picture.
