Ligue 1
Report: Nantes 3-1 Paris Saint-Germain
Date: 17 April 2019
Venue: Stade de la Beaujoire
Paris Saint-Germain missed the chance to wrap up the Ligue 1 title for the third game in a row after suffering another shock defeat at Nantes on Wednesday evening.
Redemption was on the mind for PSG following their 5-1 thrashing by Lille on Sunday, as Kylian Mbappe dropped out of the line-up. The strenuous approach looked to back-fire 13 minutes in as Kalifa Coulibaly threatened the opener, but Gianluigi Buffon's reaction save ensured otherwise. PSG shrugged off the rustiness and went in front on 19 minutes when Dani Alves dribbled close to the area to rattle the top of the net. Slack defending, which culminated their recent horror display, allowed the host back in as Diego Carlos leaped high to head home a corner three minutes later. Both sides pushed for a second as the half dawned, but the home team regained control a minute to halftime after Abdul Warris tapped in from the back-post. The Parisans fell further behind after halftime, as Carlos ran past a body of defenders 52 minutes in to find the bottom corner for his brace. PSG's alarming defensive woes almost led to a fourth for Nantes, but Coulibaly missed a gaping goal with Buffon in no man's land seven minutes later. The struggles didn't subside, as Waris threatened a fourth from an acute angle on 69 minutes, however Buffon parried away for a corner. PSG grabbed a consolation with a minute to go, as Metehan Guclu finished off Colin Dagba's cut back. However, the home side were able to see out the remaining stages as Thomas Tuchel's men will now have to wait until the weekend to wrap up the title.
