Rival Fans Target Greenwood With 'Die' Chants

Rival Fans Target Greenwood With 'Die' Chants

Getafe's manager Jose Bordalas has had his say on Mason Greenwood being subjected to chants of "rapist" and "die" in their latest LALIGA encounter.

On Sunday, the Deep Blue Ones and their opponents on the day, Real Sociedad, played out a 1-1 draw at the Coliseum Stadium.

While the Englishman was once again in the headlines, it was not for his attacking contributions as during the match, the 22-year-old was the target of chants from the away supporters as they called him a "rapist" and told him to die.

This is not the first time the Bradford native has experienced this in Spain since arriving on loan from Manchester United.

He also suffered abuse from opposition fans during matches against Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao earlier in the campaign, with his manager Bordalas insisting that serious steps need to be taken to stop these incidents from becoming regular occurrences.

"I don't have much to say. It is unacceptable. This is not the first time this has happened to us and we must take action. Like what happened in the game against Sevilla," the Spanish tactician said after the match, as per Diario AS.

Greenwood was originally arrested in 2022 on charges relating to attempted rape, assault and coercive control, but those were later dropped at the beginning of 2023.

It remains to be seen what actions LALIGA will take in stamping out the abuse being hurled at the young star, but while Getafe wait, Bordalas and Greenwood will be preparing to face Almeria this coming Saturday.
