The defender's current deal expires on 30 June 2021, and there has been no sign of an extension just yet as wages and contract length look to be the stumbling block.
According to Diario Sport, Los Blancos are now preparing alternatives should Ramos not sign a new deal and leave the club on a free transfer next year.
The two main candidates are said to be Manchester City defender Eric Garcia and Villarreal centre-half Pau Torres, although the former has been heavily tipped to join FC Barcelona.
With Garcia on the Catalans' transfer wish list, it is claimed that Torres fits the profile for Los Blancos, who are looking for a young, quality footballing defender.
The other option is believed to be Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, whose contract also expires at the end of this season, and so could join the LaLiga club on a free transfer.
