LaLiga giants FC Barcelona have confirmed their new captain for the upcoming season after Lionel Messi's surprise departure.

The Argentine superstar bid an emotional farewell at the Camp Nou on Sunday after it was confirmed he will not be returning ahead of the 2021/22 season.
The Catalan giants then confirmed later that day that veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets will take over the captain's duties for the new campaign.

"It is a pride to be the captain," Busquets said on Sunday evening before the Joan Gamper Trophy.
"I have had great examples with Carles Puyol, Xavi and Leo. Thank you Leo for taking Barça to the highest level… Eternal thanks Leo."
The Catalan giants will begin their quest to reclaim the LaLiga title on Sunday against Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou.
