The 25-year-old, who is the second most expensive player in the world, joined Barca from Liverpool in a £145 million (R2.45 billion) deal earlier this month, and could make his debut for the club against Espanyol on Thursday night after recovering from an injury.
Coutinho will take over the No. 14 from Argentina international Javier Mascherano, who has left the club for Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune.
Mascherano wore the number for seven and a half seasons, lifting two UEFA Champions League trophies, four LaLiga titles, four Spanish Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup on two occasions during that time.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry donned the jersey when he moved to the Camp Nou at the beginning of the 2007/08 campaign. The Frenchman spent three seasons with the Blaugrana, winning two league titles, two Spanish Super Cups and one Spanish Cup.

Others who have worn the No. 14 jersey for Barca, according to Transfermarkt, include Santiago Ezquerro, Gerard Lopez, Emmanuel Amunike, Jordi Cruyff, Oscar García and Lluis Carreras.
