Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli could be given a lifeline by a UEFA Champions League contender after the club made it to the final qualifying round for the competition.
According to the Daily Mail, Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam are ready to offer the forward a contract after more funds were made available.
The move could see the Italian attacker return to European football, irrespective of whether Ajax win or lose their next two Champions League qualifiers.
The 25-year-old has been told he is not needed by his current club, and has been training with the Reds' U23 side.
The former Manchester City star spent last season on loan at AC Milan, but failed to impress the Italian club's owners and was eventually sent back to the Merseyside club once the deal expired, having scored just one goal in 20 league appearances for the Rossoneri.
