According to Football Italia and Tuttosport, Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has emerged as the Red Devils' top target for next season.
The striker is valued at about €45 million (R800 million), and, despite his contract with Inter only expiring in 2019, it is believed United could land the forward if the Italian giants fail to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.
Reports suggest that Jose Mourinho could be the Old Trafford club's boss next season, and he will look to bring the Italian in once he takes over the reins.
The 22-year-old centre forward has had a controversial campaign, often being criticised and finding himself on the bench.
Although no verbal agreement has been reached between Icardi's representatives and United, sources claim it's only a matter of time before a deal is made.

The attacker has scored 10 goals in 22 matches for Inter, who are currently fourth in Serie A, this season.
