Manchester United have reportedly made a €190 million bid, almost double the current world record transfer fee, for FC Barcelona superstar Neymar.
Brazilian publication Globo Esporte claim United offered to meet Neymar's release clause.
The report states United chief executive Ed Woodward was in Barcelona last week to present the offer, and not to negotiate a deal for former Barca winger Pedro, who has since joined Chelsea.
The Catalans are said to have rejected the world record bid; however, both clubs left on good terms and could potentially meet again to discuss a deal in the future.
Clubs in Spain are reportedly obligated to put release clauses into players' contracts under Spanish law, but they have the right to reject any offer meeting the clause.
However, if Neymar wanted to leave, Barcelona would have no choice but to let him go, with United then having to pay a lump sum on additional costs for taxes and legal expenses, according to Spanish football journalist Rafael Hernandez.
Neymar's agent confirmed the player is not interested in leaving, while Barcelona are keen to raise his release clause to €250 million.

Had Barcelona agreed to sell the Brazilian, the deal would have replaced Gareth Bale's move to Real Madrid for €100 million as the most expensive transfer ever.
