Real Madrid Targeting Sporting Lisbon Midfielder

Real Madrid manager, Rafael Benitez, has reportedly asked the club to bolster the side's midfield and one Portuguese midfielder tops the list. It is believed that Benitez has no plans for Brazilian midfielder, Lucas Silva, who is expected to be loaned out, while the former Liverpool manager is not convinced by Asier Illarramendi. Having lost the services of Sami Khedira as well, that would leave Benitez with Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro, which leads the Spanish manager to call on reinforcements. Acccording to AS, Madrid have been monitoring Carvalho's progress since last season, however they were impressed by the midfielder's showings at the U21 European Championship, where he was awarded Player of The Tournament. Contact has been made the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, according to AS, with the 23-year-old being valued at €45m. Carvalho made two appearance for Portugal at the 2014 World Cup, while he made 30 appearances for Sporting in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
