The Spaniard was apparently all set to join the Red Devils, but reports on Wednesday emerged that he is undergoing a medical in London.
Mourinho reportedly played a massive role in this transfer coup as he personally called Pedro in order to grab him from United's clutches.
The Chelsea boss is understood to have contacted the 28-year-old after the Blues' 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in a last-minute attempt to strengthen his squad.
According to Marca, Chelsea outbid United, who were still trying to bargain down Pedro's £22 million release clause, despite chief executive Ed Woodward personally flying to Barcelona on Monday.
Mourinho's call seem to have played an instrumental part in Pedro's change of mind, while other reports claim Louis van Gaal's treatment of Pedro's national teammates, Victor Valdes and David De Gea, also played a role.

Van Gaal first publicly told Valdes he has no future at Old Trafford, before putting De Gea on the bench ahead of his potential transfer to Real Madrid.
