The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory has announced their 10 worst-value signings in Europe's top five leagues from the latest transfer window.
According to the Football Observatory, Guangzhou Evergrande striker Jackson Martinez is the worst-value signing of the January transfer window.
The study, in which the CIES compared the fees paid for players against an estimated values algorithm developed by their research team, suggested that Guangzhou paid £18 million more than they should have for Martinez as his actual market value is £12 million – the Chinese club paid Atletico Madrid £31 million for his services.
In second place is former Chelsea star Ramires – another Chinese side, Jiangsu Suning, paid the Blues £25 million for the Brazilian midfielder, which was £8 million more than what his actual value is, according to the Football Laboratory.
It seems Premier League new boys Bournemouth were ripped off when they paid relegation battlers Norwich City £8 million for third-placed Lewis Grabban as it's believed the striker is only worth £2 million.
