Another surprising move in recent history was Robinho's 2008 move from Real Madid to Manchester City. At the time, the Citizens were not nearly the force they are today, and it was even reported that the Brazilian himself thought he was signing for Manchester United.
Carlos Tevez also shocked Europe when he went from The Red Devils to Manchester City, although it was not a direct deal. The Argentine was on a two-year loan deal at United, and instead of staying with Sir Alex Ferguson's side when the two years were finished, he signed with their bitter rivals instead.
Mario Balotelli's move to Liverpool from AC Milan in 2014 was also not expected, as former manager Brendan Rodgers said two weeks prior to the deal that the club would not be signing the Italian.
