Still just 17 years old, Lamine Yamal has already achieved incredible success with La Furia Roja.
In June and July, the Barcelona native played an integral role in securing the nation's record-setting fourth UEFA European Championship title.
While his tally of one goal and four assists at the competition put him in contention for Player of the Tournament honours, he only won the Young Player of the Tournament award.
He managed to accomplish this just nine months after making his senior debut for the Spanish national team.
However, while he may be famous for his success with the 2010 world champions, he could have played for two African nations.
Born in Catalonia, Lamine Yamal's parents both hail from the African continent. His mother is from Equatorial Guinea, while his father is from Morocco.
Prior to Luis de la Fuente calling him up for the first time in September 2023, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation were believed to have tried to convince the teenager to play for the north African giants, but the skilful winger maintained that his dream was always to play for the nation of his birth.
Regardless of his decision to play for the European powerhouse, though, the player's father, Mounir Nasraoui, has stated that Lamine Yamal still pays close attention to how the Atlas Lions are doing.

"Yes, my son chose Spain, but he follows the results of the Moroccan national team with me. My son's choice does not change anything about my love for Morocco," he told Moroccan media, as per Le Site Info Sports.
