Last Friday, the Iranian giants announced the three-time CAF Champions League winner as their newest manager.
The Persian Gulf Pro League outfit has endured a turbulent start to the campaign, having won two matches, drawn another two and lost three.
This erratic form led to Javad Nekounam being fired, with the Capital Blues having turned to the Kagiso native to turn their fortunes around.
While the former Bafana Bafana head coach was announced as the club's new appointment on Friday, he is understood to have only arrived to join the club in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.
This was the same day his new side faced off against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr in the AFC Champions League. Unfortunately for Esteghlal, they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to the Knights of Najd, but the South African tactician was in attendance to witness his new team play.
It is reported that Esteghlal's president suggested that the 60-year-old introduce himself to his new charges before facing the Saudi Arabian giants, but he refused as he wanted to respect interim boss Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh and wanted his players to be as concentrated as possible on the challenge ahead when he did eventually meet them.
According to Khabarozshi, Mosimane met his players in an impromptu ceremony after the match, and is poised to take his first training session with them on Thursday.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly boss will be unveiled by the club to the public in Tehran on Friday, according to the club's official website.
