Tottenham Hotspur secured a spot in the fourth round with a 2-1 triumph over Championship outfit Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.

Giovanni Lo Celso opened the scoring for the North London outfit after just two minutes, before Erik Lamela doubled the lead on 15 minutes.

George Saville reduced the deficit with seven minutes remaining to set up a nervy finish, but Spurs were able to hold on for the win.

Newcastle United cruised into the fourth round after thrashing Rochdale at St. James' Park.

The hosts raced into a three-goal lead into the first half thanks to an own goal from Eoghan O'Connell, Matt Longstaff and Miguel Almiron.

Joelinton bagged Newcastle's fourth after 82 minutes while Michael Williams bagged a consolation for the visitors minutes later.

Aaron Pierre's 89th minute strike handed Shrewsbury Town a 1-0 victory over Bristol City at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

As a result, Shrewsbury will now face Premier League leaders Liverpool in the fourth round.

A brace from Maxime Biamou and a solitary strike guided Conventry City to a 3-0 thrashing of Bristol Rovers.

Coventry's reward for beating Rovers will see them hosts Birmingham City.

Lucas Boye and Jordan Obita were on target to guide Blackpool to a 2-0 victory over Reading at Bloomfoeld Road.

Blackpool will now face the winner of the replay between Cardiff City and Carlisle Town.
