FA Cup Report: Liverpool v Plymouth Argyle 08 January 2017

FA Cup

Result: Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth Argyle

Date: 08 January 2017

Venue: Anfield

Liverpool and fourth division outfit, Playmouth Argyle will face off in an FA Cup replay, after they played out a 0-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp named a relatively young line up, and only included five team senior players, which included Lucas, Emre Can, Divock Origi, Alberto Moreno and Loris Karius.

Liverpool dominated proceedings from the onset and spent most of the first stanza in the visitors' half of the pitch, although they struggled to carve out chances.

Plymouth, meanwhile, were quite happy to sit back and soak up the pressure with the hope of catching Liverpool on the break.

The first real effort of the game arrived 10 minutes into the second half when Lucas forced McCormick into a fine save with an effort from distance.

Liverpool opted for a change after the hour mark, as Daniel Sturridge replaced Can for the final 30 minutes, as they looked for the opening goal.

Sturridge had a chance to break the deadlock after 80 minutes, but the striker headed over the crossbar from close range.

Klopp's charges pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but Plymouth managed to hold out until the final whistle, meaning a replay will be take place.
