FA Cup Report: Hull City v Chelsea 25 January 2020

Result: Hull City 1-2 Chelsea

Date: 25 January 2020

Venue: KCOM Stadium

Chelsea scraped into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Championship outfit Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday night.

Blues manager Frank Lampard gave rare starts to Pedro Rodriguez and Michy Batshuayi, while Kepa Arrizabalaga was given a rest as Willy Caballero started between the sticks.

It didn't the Blues long to find a breakthrough after Michy Batshuayi broke the deadlock after just six minutes after finding the back of the net with a deflected effort.

The visitors nearly bagged a second goal in the 17th minute when Mason Mount did well to pick out Ross Barkley who was denied by a fine save from Long.

While Chelsea carved out a couple more half chances, Hull were unable to provide any real threat going forward as Caballero was largely untested in the opening 45 minutes.

Despite the Tigers showing a bit more fight in the second half, the Blues bagged a second goal in the 64th minute as Tomori nodded home Mount's free-kick at the far post.

Hull did manage to pull a goal back in the 77th minute as Kamil Grosicki's free-kick took a big deflection off Marcos Alonso and sailed into the far corner.

The Championship went in search of an equaliser to force a replay, but Lampard's charges were able to see off the late surge to secure a spot in the next round.
