Report: Arsenal 1-0 Leeds United
Date: 06 January 2020
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal sealed their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Championship outfit Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was left out of the squad completely as Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette were deployed as the Gunners' front three.
The Gunners were in a good mood after claiming their first win under Mikel Arteta last weekend against Manchester United, but it was the visitors who looked livelier in the opening 20 minutes.
Leeds went close to breaking the deadlock on 33 minutes when Luke Ayling's cross found Ezgjan Alioski but Arsenal shot-stopper Emilanio Martinez produced a superb save to deny the attacker from close range.
The Gunners, meanwhile, were unable to carve out any clear-cut openings in the first 45 minutes as Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier barely had a save to make.
However, the Gunners managed to break the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half as Laczette combined with Pepe to set up Reiss Nelson, who found the back of the net with a scuffed effort.
Martinez was called upon at other end minutes later as the Gunners shot-stopper produced a good stop to keep out Patrick Bamford's curling effort from distance.
Leeds did throw a couple bodies forward in search of an equaliser, but the Gunners were resolute at the back and held on for the win.
